AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS

Stony Brook University Student Chapter

Our mission

Stony Brook ASCE works with the national American Society of Civil Engineers to prepare students for the civil engineering profession through exposure to industry information and professionals in various fields. We encourage students to develop their professional skills by working together on career-oriented projects such as Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge.

The ASCE 2024 Metropolitan Student Symposium will be will be hosted by Stony Brook University on April 12-14, 2024!

ASCE Student Symposiums are a great way to meet like-minded individuals and network with other schools while having fun. We are grateful to all judges, volunteers, and participating students for allowing this Symposium to happen.  We look forward to welcoming 16 ASCE Student Chapters from the ASCE Metropolitan Student Conference Region to compete in 2024!

OUTSTANDING PROJECT RECOGNITION:

 ASCE CONCRETE CANOE

It is with great pleasure that we announce that our organization has received an outstanding project recognition for our Concrete Canoe Project! This award was bestowed upon us by the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences, recognizing the hard work and dedication of our team in creating a successful and innovative project. Our Concrete Canoe Project was a testament to the creativity, engineering expertise, and collaborative spirit of our members, who worked tirelessly to design and construct a fully functional canoe made entirely out of concrete!

STEEL BRIDGE:

 BEST CONSTRUCTION NOISES AWARD

We are thrilled to announce that our ASCE Student Chapter's Steel Bridge Team has been awarded the Best Construction Noises Award! This recognition was received at the latest ASCE Metropolitan Student Symposium, and we are incredibly proud of our team's achievement. This was the first year our chapter had a Steel Bridge Team, and it was also our first year competing in the event. Despite being newcomers, our team demonstrated exceptional teamwork, innovation, and creativity in designing and constructing a steel bridge. In addition, our team's expletive-laden construction noises caught the attention of the judges, earning them this unique recognition.

CONCRETE CANOE:

TECHNICAL PROPOSAL - 2ND PLACE

TECHNICAL PRESENTATION - 3RD PLACE

We are excited to announce that our ASCE Student Chapter's Concrete Canoe Team has earned 2nd place in the Technical Presentation and 3rd place in the Technical Report at the latest ASCE Metropolitan Student Symposium. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are extremely proud of our team's hard work and dedication in preparing for the competition. Our team put in countless hours of research, design, and construction to create a concrete canoe that was both innovative and functional. The Technical Presentation and Technical Report sections required our team to demonstrate their technical knowledge, communication skills, and attention to detail, and they excelled in both categories.
